Degree Certificate Attestation Procedure for Qatar – Complete Guide
In 2016 the additional requirements in degree certificate attestation procedure were introduced for Qatar. Since then, there has been a lot time spent navigating the sometimes unclear guidelines in order to refine our understanding of this new and unique system. However, we still get supporting documents from universities that aren’t up to scratch and we’re dedicated to helping our customers get things done as quickly and as easily as possible, as it’s easy to miss small details that can cause big issues!
What are the supporting documents required?
There are a total of three documents required to legalise the majority of education awards for Qatar – the original award certificate, a supporting letter and the transcript of results (if this is not possible to obtain, you must state why in the supporting letter). You will also require a copy of your passport photo page if you are a UK citizen, or you official photo ID if you are non-UK citizen.
These requirements hold for awards generally of Diploma level or above, but you can check your award in the table below:
Do require supporting documents
Don’t require supporting documents
NVQ Level 5-8
Doctorate without transcript
HND Level 5 and above
BTEC* (as a Diploma, HND or HNC will require supporting documents)
NVQ Level 1-4
BTEC* (level 3 or below without the word Diploma or HND/HNC stated)
HNC Level 4 and below
Please note: providing a certified copy of your award certificate from the university is not acceptable in place of the original. Although this is known as a certified copy, it is not the same as a copy made by a registered solicitor and as such we are unable to process this.
*In regards to all certificates, if the word “diploma” is used, supporting documents are always required.
What is required in the letter?
We already provide a help sheet to customers who send a query regarding university letters or place an order with us, but this hasn’t communicated anything directly to the universities. When we provide customers with a list of requirements for the content of the letter, this can then be passed on to the college or university. However, the resulting document from Student Services often misses information or doesn’t communicate exactly what the Qatar Embassy require. The language used is very important and there is little room for manoeuvre in terms what the Qatar Embassy wish to see. The list of requirements are as follows:
- Award given and final result
- The mode of study: whether full-time or part-time
- The type of study: whether distance learning (E-Learning) or Face to Face learning (on campus learning)
- Location of study
- Location of examinations
- Length of study
- The actual dates of study (start date and the end date)
For example, the proximate of study must be stated, whether this was “face-to-face” and where the course was ran. We have received examples of letters with “on campus” to cover this point, which does suggest very strongly that this person studied in person at the university or college. However, this has been rejected on several occasions by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Doha. After several conversations with the Qatari authorities, we have now been advised that the letter must explicitly state “face-to-face” study, on campus and the location at which the course took place.
Qatar will not accept any online or distance learning qualifications. You can read more about these issues in our dedicated blog post on this topic here. If you do have a distance learning degree and are intending to work in Qatar, there may be a way to continue your applications. Check out our post on this subject here.
The format of the letter itself is of lesser importance. Each institution seem to have a set template, some use a table layout and some a more generalised letter format. Either will be accepted to complete your degree certificate attestation procedure for Qatar, as long as the content is present.
How we can help with legalising education certificates for Qatar
To help customers as much as we can, we have created an editable letter which can simply be filled in and sent to the university directly requesting your supporting letter. This attempts to provide the list of points to be covered and put emphasis on the importance of the language used and inclusion of each point. We feel this will minimise the time spent going back and forth with contacts on campus and, in the case of the few institutions that charge for this service, minimise the possibility of customers be required to pay for additional copies to be produced.
We will provide all the documentation you require upon placement of your order. If you are thinking of working in Qatar or have a job offer, we can handle the legalisation for Qatar of all of the documents required for you. Please note: as of December 2019, a copy of your passport photo page is required for all legalisation applications for Qatar.
